Holmes Highlights is a regular feature where we get to know members of our Holmes Community a little better. This week we are highlighting Lori Krikau, Administrative Assistant at Holmes Elementary. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Berwyn.
Where did you live before you came to Holmes? I have lived in Oak Park for 20 years.
If you hadn't gone into education, what's another career you might have considered? I have been in the Oak Park school district for 10 years--9 years at Holmes and 1 year at Julian. Prior to that I worked substituting for 3 years in Oak Park. Prior to that I worked as a Regional Supervisor for the Midwest territory for Sports Authority for 10 years.
Can you tell us a bit about your family? I am married and have a daughter who is currently a sophomore at OPRF high school. My daughter Megan is involved in volleyball, ice hockey and softball which keep us very busy throughout the year.
What is something that makes you happy? Coming home and being surprised that dinner is already ready!
What is something that upsets you? Not too many things upset me--
What is the trait you most frown upon in others? Procrastination.
What is your greatest extravagance? Oh boy--nothing really comes to mind--
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I wish I was a better cook--not very good at it and do not really enjoy it.
What is something that you treasure? Being able to watch my daughter participate ad succeed in the sports that she loves!
Do you have any pet peeves? Clutter--I'm a bit of a neat freak.
What is your motto? Do not ask someone to do something you're not willing to do yourself.
What was your favorite subject in high school? My favorite subject was science.
What was one extra-curricular activity you did that might (or might not) surprise people? I played collegiate tennis at Eastern Illinois University.
What is one of your favorite journeys? This past summer my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and my husband and I our 20th. We took a family trip to Mexico and had a great trip.
If you won a trip to anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go? I would travel Europe--start off in Italy, my husband has distant family there and then take month and visit Switzerland, London, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Sweden, and Greece.
