Teacher Feature: Michelle Anderson, 3rd Grade Teacher

Holmes Highlights is a regular feature where we get to know members of our Holmes Community a little better.  


Where did you grow up?

Elmhurst, IL

If you hadn’t gone into education, what’s another career you might have considered?

Since I was 4 years old I only remember wanting to be a teacher! Another career I would have considered is being an author.

Can you tell us a bit about your family?

I have a husband and three great kids.  My daughter is in 2nd grade, my middle son is in 4-5 pre-K, my baby boy is 1 ½.

What is something that makes you happy?

Mornings! I love the promise of a new day.

What is something that upsets you?

People that lack empathy and compassion for others.

What is your greatest extravagance?

I treat myself to Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks coffee quite often. :)

What do you consider a great personal achievement?

I completed my first 10-mile run in the spring of 2016 while completing my thesis for my 2nd graduate degree in the same month.

What is something that you treasure?

Every card and note I’ve ever received from a student I’ve held on to. I love going back to read them years later.

Do you have any pet peeves?

My pet peeve is negative attitudes.

What is your motto?

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars.  Give your all to everything you do!

What was your favorite subject in high school?

Writing Class

What was one extra-curricular activity you did that might (or might not) surprise people (past or present)?

I was a soccer player for many years! I love all sporting events and have played just about every sport offered to me while growing up.

What is one of your favorite journeys?

Camping. Every time you take away all of life’s conveniences something exciting is bound to happen.

If you won a trip to anywhere in the world, where would you choose to go?

I would love to take my family to the Grand Canyon. I would love a trip with activities, adventures and a beautiful landscape.
